Drexel Shaft! (Shut your mouth!)

A play on theĀ original shaft lyrics…(probably not nearly as clever as I think it is upon this writing). In any case, Philadelphia’s phallic relic of the industrial age is coming down! Long the inanimate object with which Drexel students could thrust their college-related frustrations upon, the Shaft will be demolished in what is sure to be a scintillating display of dramatic proportions. As transportation technology has progressed signifcantly, the building is obsolete and already experiencing structural failings that would be difficult to justify the expense of fixing.
Its location in the center of the train yards also severely limits its adaptability. A Bed & Breakfast might be a hard sell; although, a rave might be the perfect fit…
More on the changing transportation technologies that would render the Drexel Shaft obsolete, but the important thing is that the demolition is taking place November 8, 2009 at 7:30AM (Rain Date: Nov. 15th). Meet me at Drexel Park to pour one out for the shaftiest Shaft that ever shafted.
